75 year old woman sentenced to 40 lashes

A 75 year old Saudi woman has been sentenced to 40 lashes and 4 months imprisonment simply because the met with two men who weren’t related to her. The two men also received similar punishments.

Under Saudi law women are treated as second-class citizens, and they are subject to many restrictions that simply have no place in a modern society. The ‘law’ that this woman broke is in direct contravention of several articles of the UN Declaration of Human Rights which Saudi Arabia does not support.
