Defacing the Bible for Art

Friday, July 24th, 2009

The Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art is currently hosting an exhibition where visitors are invited to write in a copy of the Bible. The idea seems to have been originally put forward by Metropolitan Community Church with the aim of reclaiming the Bible as a sacred text. Predictably however it hasn’t exactly gone as the organisers had intended.

Inside Natures Giants

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I’ve been watching Channel 4′s Inside Natures Giants. It’s a fascinating series where a team of experts dissect some of the largest creatures on the planet. They have tackled a Whale, and Elephant, a Crocodile, and a Giraffe. The dissections were all undertaken primarily to understand why the particular individual animal died, but it also allowed us to see some of the amazing evolutionary adaptations that allows the animals to be what they are.

According to the Right Reverend Paul Richardson, the Church of England is in freefall at the moment, and could well cease to exist as soon as 30 years from now.

British study reveals Bible knowledge in decline

Monday, July 13th, 2009

via ABC News

This is excellent news, and backs up other recent reports that show that the Church and religion in general is becoming increasingly less imports to the younger generation. Hopefully this trend will continue, and religion will soon be relegated to nothing more than a fringe activity that the rest of us can ignore.

Generational Atheists?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

When you read through the many Atheist/Atheism based blogs you will come across many many stories of how people de-converted from one religion or another and came to Atheism. The stories are pretty enlightening, and it’s encouraging to read how people take the woo out of their lives.

It’s much rarer however to read about people like myself however who consider themselves to be life-long Atheists.

Man, this is a catchy little song. :)

Evolution Test

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Over at the Missing Universe Museum website (another Creation/ID website that can provide many many hours of entertainment) they have created an little Evolution Test which they propose students give to teachers to see how they react. As you can probably already imagine, the test is rather silly, and the questions posed are almost entirely ridiculous. However I (as a non educator and non scientist) shall attempt to provide at least reasonably accurate answers.

Parents in faith-healing case never considered calling a doctor

From Oregon Live

OK, this just makes me sick. Some religious wacko parents have a daughter who is obviously very ill. Their religion dictates that they don’t seek medical help, but instead they must pray, lay on hands, and fast etc. Funnily enough (although funny is the last thing that it actually is), their daughter died as a result of their mistreatment.

Expose on Scientology

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The St Petersburg Times has done an excellent expose on that cult known as Scientology. It’s an interesting, if worrying read, and it shows that it’s run by a wacko with some serious personality disorders.
