Site problems

For some unknown reason at some point early on in June the site went down. I don’t know exactly when, and I still don’t know why. I’ve managed to track it down to a possible issue with the theme that I was using, so I’ve reverted to the basic WP theme in the meantime and that has at least allowed the site to be visible.

Sorry if that has caused my 3 readers any problems.

P.S. Is it a coincidence that it happened only shortly after we were all supposed to be raptured?

Lack of posts

Sorry about the lack of posts recently. No real excuse, just my brain hasn’t been engaged enough to think of subjects to write about. I do now however have a couple of topics in mind, so something with a little meat should be along soon.

On a side note, I must have done something right recently as my level of comment spam has gone through the roof. I jiggled the spam detection and moderation system around a bit, and it all seems to be getting caught. Hopefully there are no genuine comments being swept away with the crap.

Holidays

I’m currently on holiday in northern France, so new posts will be less often than normal.

I’m visiting a mate, and trying to help him with some of the renovations of his house. It’s a nice spacious house on the outskirts of a small village in Brittany, and looks out over some beautiful open farmland.

I’ll be spending part of the time helping to re-do the walls and ceiling in the main living room, and some of the time exploring some of the local scenery.

WordPress upgrade

I’ve just upgraded WordPress to the newly released v2.8. It seems to have gone fine, but who knows what horrors await to be found. If anything goes horribly wrong then just sit tight, pray, and I’ll be fixing it ASAP.

Just for shits and giggles I’ve updated to the latest version of the Atahualpa theme too. I like living on the edge.

Comment SPAM

My apologies to anyone who may have commented in the past, but had the comment disappear down the plug-hole.

I was using the Akismet plugin to capture comment spam, and seeing as none got through I figured it was working just fine. But then I started to look closely at the stats, and things didn’t seem to add up. I therefore suspect that the filter may have been marking some comments as spam when they weren’t. I have therefore temporarily disabled that plugin. Let’s see how it goes for a little while.

I’ve been blogging here for about 2 months now. I’ve done very little to promote this blog as of yet, partly because I’m still finding my feet a little, and partly because I’m not sure of the best method yet.

However, I notice from the stats that there are at least a few of you out there reading what I’m saying … but you’re not commenting.

So, I thought I’d just take a quick moment to turn things over to those of you that are reading.

What do you think of what I’ve had to say so far?
Are there any topics you’d like me to touch on?
