About Me

Who is the quietAtheist?

I want to do a quick Q&A about who am I, and some of the things I believe in. I’ll update page with more information over time.

Who are you?

My name is Paul, and I go under the pseudonym of Slugsie. I live in the North West of England, just outside of Blackpool. I’m in my late 30s. I am a software-engineer by trade, and I’m currently working for a large faceless US company.

Oh, and I’m also not a journalist, author, or great word smith. As such my writing style is probably a little ‘eclectic’. Plus I suck at punctuation!

Why the quietAtheist?

I’m generally a fairly quiet person. I don’t get riled up about things normally, I just get on and deal with them. I’ve traditionally been fairly reserved about my atheistic beliefs, but with the older I get and the more I follow the wider atheist community, the more I’ve felt the need to speak out.

Why this blog?

There have often been times when I have read an article, or followed a debate where I’ve felt the answers given haven’t quite been enough for me. I decided that I needed a platform where I could expound my own take on such issues, and hopefully receive some feedback from a wider audience.

What topics will you cover?

Quite simply, all sorts of things. Obviously with a title like quietAtheist, atheism and related matters will feature quite heavily. But I will also cover some science (I’m especially interested in Physics and the Cosmos, but far from an expert), general news, and maybe even a few personal matters.

How long have you been an Atheist?

I’ve been an atheist all my life. I was raised in a family that was nominally christian, but far from being practicing christians. Once I was old enough that I had the mental capacity to make my own mind up about the important stuff (probably 10ish in my case) I began to realise that it just didn’t make any sense to me. So I stopped ‘going through the motions’ and just got on with my life.

So, no God huh?

Nope.

As I live in an English speaking western country, generally speaking the god I come across is the Abrahimic god Yahweh, and he (she? it? – what is the correct pronoun to use for a non-existent entity?) will be the one most likely to come up in discussion. However, unless I’m discussing specific aspects of a specific god, you can take it as read that I’m dismissing all gods, including – but not limited to – the ones on this list.
